Pay Rate: Competitive Pay (based on experience)
Shift: Daylight | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Schedule: Monday – Friday (Overtime as needed)
TOPS Staffing is seeking an experienced Welder / Fitter to support a long-term industrial water treatment plant project in Shady Hills, Florida. This role is ideal for a highly skilled, safety-focused tradesperson with strong fabrication, fitting, and welding experience in industrial environments.
Position Overview
The Welder / Fitter will be responsible for the fabrication, fitting, and welding of piping systems, structural components, and mechanical assemblies used in an industrial water treatment facility. This position requires precision, the ability to read and interpret drawings, and the skill to perform high-quality welds in various positions and materials while working independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Perform certified welding and fitting work on piping systems, structural steel, and mechanical components
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, isometrics, and fabrication sketches
Layout, cut, fit, tack, and weld components according to specifications
Fabricate complex piping and structural assemblies from drawings and field measurements
Perform out-of-position welding as required
Ensure weld quality meets project, code, and inspection requirements
Use measuring tools and apply math skills for accurate fabrication and alignment
Work safely with minimal supervision while meeting project schedules
Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow all safety procedures
Communicate effectively with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades
Report hazards, quality issues, or material concerns promptly
Skills and Experience
Certified welder with strong fitting and fabrication experience in industrial or mechanical environments
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a certified welder/fitter
Proficient in welding carbon steel and stainless steel, including various alloys such as 316, A-20, Hastelloy, and Duplex
Experienced in out-of-position welding (GTAW, SMAW, or GMAW depending on application)
Strong understanding of piping systems, pipe supports, and structural fabrication
Ability to work from blueprints, isometrics, and diagrams to fabricate complex piping systems
Knowledge of welding symbols, joint preparation, tolerances, and fit-up requirements
Skilled in using cutting, grinding, and fabrication tools safely and effectively
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality workmanship
Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment
Strong organizational skills and ability to follow written, oral, and diagram-based instructions
Education and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Formal welder training from a recognized training facility required
Current welding certifications required (process and material specific)
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Physical and Work Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods
High level of concentration required in a busy industrial environment
