Tops Staffing has a great contract to hire opportunity with a client located on Petersburg, VA. Our client is just finishing up building their new shop and has a need to hire a material handler
This position will primarily be helping to load and unload flat bed trucks utilizing a large forklift and an overhead crane. You will be tasked with loading and unloading fairly large scale steel plates, beams, and pipes on and off of a flat bed truck.
This position is pretty physical, not a lot of lifting but your constantly walking back and forth in our facility as you pick finished product to put on outgoing trucks and then while unloading incoming material before its processed. There is a lot of climbing on and off the flat bed in this position to rig up items your loading or unloading, also on and off the flat bed to place blocking to properly load and secure finished product when loading.

Laborer - Fabrication Shop Environment
TOPS Staffing has a great opportunity for a General Laborer looking to work in a fabrication shop in Cheswick PA. This is a daylight shift position, offering a direct hire situation (hired on by union company from your first day of employment).
As a General Laborer you can expect to help out in various divisions of our fabrication shop. This will involve working with assembly, warehouse, material handling (parts and material delivery through out facility), helping load and unload trucks, helping with mixing of cement slurries, some shoveling of material will be involved in this role.
To be successful in this role you have to be willing to take on various tasks and jobs in our facility that will change on a daily basis. You don’t have to be mast of any trades or skills for this role but open to learning how to assist in each of our divisions, and open to moving around the facility as needed. Looking for somebody with a can do attitude that is willing to learn our production process and the different divisions we operate here. As a production technician, you will be tasked with doing hand assembly of various molds we manufacture. In this position you will be using materials such as resins, carbon fiber, fiberglass and foams to build up layers of our molds. TOPS has partnered with a local manufacturing company looking for an experienced mechanical assembler with some experience using a CNC milling center.
We are looking for candidates with a minimum of 2 years of experience doing larger scale mechanical assembly work in a manufacturing environment. Also will consider any car or diesel mechanic or similarly related experience as those skills would be applicable to this position.
These are upper level assembler roles, that will be tasked with doing final system assembly work. You will be responsible for piecing together several system components to make a working finished product and then testing this product to ensure proper functionality.
The ideal candidate will have some CNC operation experience. We just bough a new milling center and plan to use this machine mainly for drilling holes and milling the face off parts to bring them to the correct specifications. You do not need to be machinist to qualify for this role, if you have a strong mechanical aptitude and have used a milling center before we encourage you to apply.

Assembly Technician
As a production technician, you will be tasked with doing hand assembly of various molds we manufacture. In this position you will be using materials such as resins, carbon fiber, fiberglass and foams to build up layers of our molds. We are willing to provide on the job training to teach you proper techniques and the skills needed to be successful in this position.
Candidates who have prior experience doing floor installations, hanging wallpaper, installing vinyl wraps or decals, working with fiberglass, autobody repair or enjoy doing arts and crafts have historically worked out well in these positions.
Job Details:
Daylight shift
Shift Hours: 7am to 3:30pm
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Pay: Based on experience but up to $23.00
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on composite repair, layup, and fabrication using hand tools for parts used in the aerospace, automotive, and space sectors.
- Lay out, assemble, and bond composite and laminate parts, including pre-fitting and skin assembly..
- Handle and process various materials such as resins, carbon fiber, fiberglass, and foam.
- Sand and grind composite components while following proper PPE and safety protocols.
- Cut foam boards, composites, carbon fiber boards, wood, and similar materials using table saws, band saws, jig saws, and other shop tools.
- Apply adhesives and bond materials using trowels and other common application tools.
- Interpret and follow manufacturing plans, blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions to fabricate, repair, or modify composite structures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant work environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical documents
- Must be able to read a tape measure accurately! Will also be required to us micrometers and calipers in this job.
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Posses a high attention to detail to perform finishing work like sanding and blending.
- Good manual dexterity, this position requires working with your hands for entirety of 8 hour production shift.
- Experience working with a small team is preferred
- Ability to recognize typical problem with in production and select established solutions that company has already identified.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Repetitive use of hands and arms
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs on occasion
- Comfortable working in a machine shop environment

* Electrical Maintenance Technician
In this position you will perform electrical maintenance work in mill or plant type environment. Ideally looking for candidates with strong PLC knowledge and experience.
Job Details:
Direct hire position
Daylight and second shift positions available
Starting pay rate: $25 and $30 per hour depending on experience
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lays out, builds, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies equipment or finished product electronic components, parts, switch panels, electronic equipment and systems.
- May test new equipment, troubleshoot operation, and make minor adjustments to equipment.
- Performs high voltage electrical repairs (e.g., controls, relays). Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electronic, mechanical, or electrical computer-controlled equipment.
- May input or perform PLC programming.
- May be involved in safety committees or initiatives.
- Performs advanced repairs, troubleshoots electrical problems, performs preventative maintenance and testing on electrical wiring and components of production equipment and facilities infrastructure
- Installs electrical panels, relays and switches
- Reads and troubleshoots basic PLC programming
Education and Experience:
- 3 years of experience performing electrical maintenance work in a production environment – Steel mill or foundry environment would be preferred.
- Technical shooling degree in electrical maintenance or related field.
- Capable of testing and trouble shooting Electrical applications

Production Worker - Afternoon shift
TOPS has partnered with a local manufacturing company who is looking to hire several entry level production workers across all three of the production shifts they operate. All positions will involve working in a union production environment.
In this position you will be trained to as a production line worker and help tend to our semi-automated manufacturing process. This could include, loading machine hoppers, doing quality checks on products coming down the line, final packing products and various other general line production tasks.
Offering a Straight 8hr workday!
Our client pays you for your lunch break so the shifts are true 8hr shifts where and your paid for the entire time your in the facility this includes both your lunch and 2 breaks.
Job Details:
Good opportunity - entry level and experienced candidates encouraged to apply
Afternoon Shift - 4pm to midnight
Schedule - Monday to Friday - Position will require working overtime on weekends when needed.
Starting pay rates including shift differentials:
Afternoon -$17.60 per hour
Progression:
Company offers a progression track to move up with in the organization. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to bid on higher level positions once brought on direct by company, these positions will typically pay between $18 to $21 per hour. This is a union facility. Jobs can range from quality roles, to warehousing positions, line lead, supervisor, maintenance, Sr. machine operator roles.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Order packing
• Palletizing orders
• Production line tending
• Loading hoppers on production line
• Basic quality assurance check of products
• Clearing faults or jams on the production line
• Picking defective items off production line
• Basic adjustments to production line to keep it running smoothly
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to be on your feet and moving around for entire 8hr shift
• Position will require bending, reaching, pulling and light repetitive lifting.
• Keep up with pace of production! High speed semi-automated production line. This means the line does the majority of the work but it moves fast so its critical you can clear any jams, load hoppers and pull any defects of the line in a timely manner.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• No prior manufacturing experience required will consider entry level candidates.
All positions do require candidates to pass a pre-employment drug screening and national criminal history check.
