  • Proficiency with Windows OS and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail and proactive approach
  • Effective communication skills

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with laboratory instruments or equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge of NIOSH methodologies (0500, 0600, 7500)
  • Experience in analytical or environmental testing

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma is required; associates degree and relevant experience are a plus
  • Prior exposure to sample preparation or laboratory procedures is advantageous but not necessary

Job Overview:

Lab Technician 

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Hours: 2 PM – 10:30pm 
Pay: $24.50/hour + .75 shift differential = $25.25/hour 

TOPS Staffing is seeking a Lab Technician to join a state-of-the-art medical manufacturing facility. This is a night shift role in a live blood laboratory, where the employee will be directly involved in drawing blood donations and performing laboratory testing to ensure the highest quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in a highly regulated, medical lab environment.

Position Overview
The Lab Technician will perform laboratory test procedures, collect and analyze data, and support quality and process improvement initiatives. The role includes drawing blood donations, monitoring equipment and processes, and assisting in validation of production processes. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety, accuracy, and reliability of the laboratory’s operations.

Key Responsibilities
• Draw and process blood donations for laboratory testing
• Perform chemical, microbiological, and analytical tests to support product release and validation
• Collect and analyze production data to support process monitoring and improvement
• Prepare laboratory solutions and reagents according to standardized procedures
• Monitor equipment and follow all laboratory protocols, SOPs, and safety procedures
• Identify abnormal or out-of-specification results and escalate appropriately
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure proper equipment operation
• Assist in Lean and 5S initiatives to improve efficiency and workflow
• Support training and mentoring of new staff once fully trained

Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred but not required
• Phlebotomy certification preferred; willing to receive training required
• Minimum 6 months of experience in a laboratory environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience with data analysis software (MiniTab) and ERP systems (Oracle, SAP) a plus
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to follow protocols
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and teamwork mindset
