Overview

TOPS Staffing is partnering with a growing custom manufacturing company in the Canonsburg area to hire an experienced Tool & Die Machinist. This role is ideal for a high-level machinist who enjoys tooling work, problem-solving, and hands-on craftsmanship—but is also open to supporting CNC production when tooling demands are lighter. You won’t be stuck running parts all day—this is a true hybrid role where your skillset will be fully utilized.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build, repair, and modify tooling, dies, and fixtures (primarily manual machining)
  • Operate manual mills and lathes for precision tooling work
  • Support CNC machining operations during production needs
  • Perform machining operations including drilling, tapping, countersinking, and face milling
  • Read and interpret blueprints, prints, and technical drawings
  • Inspect finished work using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Run 1–2 machines at a time in a team-oriented shop layout

Shop Equipment & Environment:

  • Mix of manual and CNC equipment
  • CNC Machines: Haas (mills), Doosan (lathe)
  • Programming/Software: GibbsCAM
  • Clean, organized, and safety-focused job shop environment
  • Work will vary so you wont be bored in this position, work will change based on repairs of tooling and dies that need attention and from time to time there will be some production machining mixed in.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong background in tooling, die work, or fixture building
  • Experience with both manual and CNC machining
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and improve tooling
  • Comfortable stepping into production machining when needed
  • Experience with mills and lathes (both required)
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a job shop setting

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience doing tool & die work and production machining required
  • Machining apprenticeship, trade school, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Journeyman-level experience is a plus

CNC Machinist – Afternoon Shift

This is a great opportunity for machinists who are confident running mills or lathes (or both) and enjoy working in a high-mix, mid-volume environment where setups change throughout the day.

Job Details
• Position: CNC Machinist (Mill or Lathe)
• Shift: Afternoon, 3:00 PM – 1:30 AM
• Schedule: Monday–Thursday (4 x 10s)
• Overtime: Fridays as needed (OT regularly available)
• Pay: Up to $35.00/hr, based on experience
• Bonus: Eligible for annual bonus which can exceed $8,000 
 

Position Overview
Machinists in this role are assigned to one primary CNC machine and are responsible for running all parts scheduled on that machine. This shop produces a wide variety of parts, so new setups are common (1–3 per shift). You’ll be hands-on with setups, adjustments, and quality checks, but full programming is not required.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Set up and operate CNC mills or lathes (multi-axis equipment)
• Run a variety of parts with frequent changeovers
• Pull correct material and prepare jobs for production
• Determine proper workholding (fixtures, vises, clamps, clamps, etc.)
• Load programs at the machine using the HMI
• Change tooling and set tool offsets
• Zero out machines and verify setup before running
• Check feeds, speeds, tooling, and coolant flow
• Inspect parts during production using calipers and measuring tools
• Make minor edits or adjustments as needed to keep parts in spec
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
